Browning, initially marketed as the Remington Model 17. Introduced in 1937, the 37 was an immediate hit in part due to the nature of its operation. Unlike most pump shotguns which eject shells to the side, the 37 ejected its spent shells downward through the same port shells were manually loaded into the magazine from. This enabled both left and right-handed shooters to operate the 37 with equal ease, without the former having to deal with empty shells hitting them in the face. The Featherlight model featured a walnut stock and forearm with cut checkering, light receiver engraving, and a smoothbore barrel (modified choke) with orange fiberoptic front sight.
