Ithaca Flues 7E 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun
RARE GUN, LESS THAN 20 MADE, GOLD INLAYS
General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1917, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 284850
Walt Snyder's book "The Ithaca Gun Co. - From the Beginning" has a count of 22 Grade 7E guns inclusive of ALL GAUGES in the NID series of Ithaca double guns. There has been no such count of the Flues series which ran from 1909 to 1925 with over 250,000 Flues models produced. Certainly more prolific than the 45,000 guns in the NID model. So, we can assume more than 22 Flues Model Grade 7E guns were produced in all gauges, but not many more. If we look at the 16 gauge guns, it is likely fewer than 20 or so were ever produced in this profusely engraved 7E. There are 3 different colors of gold inlays present, with 7 gold inlays in all. The eagle on the bottom of the frame has a white gold head! The barrels are Krupp Steel, the English style stock is finely figured and elaborately checkered in a flor-de-lis pattern with ribbons throughout. All mechanics are fully operational and the gun is in great condition. This gun, serial number 284850 made in 1917, was shipped to England in the 1920's and has gone through the British proof houses several times, with the last pass through after 1989. Now proofed for the heavier 1oz. load and 2 3/4" chambers, the bore diameters, chambers, and wall thicknesses have not changed since proof tested. So we have an American gun ready to shoot modern 2 3/4" loads that has passed the rigorous British proof standard, with gorgeous wood and engraving, light weight at 6lbs. 3oz., and with desirable features, extreme rarity, this gun is a grand investment vehicle that will be a joy to take to the field or traps.
