Ithaca Grade 2 28 Gauge – RARE, ORIGINAL CONDITION LONG LOP, Vintage Firearms Inc
Description: General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1923, 28 Gauge, 5bls 14oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 5/8", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 9/16" Serial Number: 369441 For any serious shooter/collector, the small-bore Classic American Doubles are the pinnacle of desirability. They are few in numbers and rarely encountered. When it comes to the 28ga. only two of the Classic American double gun producers come into play; Parker and Ithaca. As most who seek these small bores are aware, the Parker guns are very costly in 28ga. with a starting price over $10,000 for their field grade VH Grade gun. The Ithaca Gun Co. actually sold more than twice as many guns overall than Parker Brothers ever did, so the buying public in the early 1900’s recognized Ithaca as a better gun than Parker. The Ithaca is an awesome gun with brilliant mechanics, strong receiver, and its affordable cost. This Ithaca Grade 2, sn369441 made in 1923, is exceptionally rare as it is adorned with game scene engraving and the flourishes of scroll work which is lacking on the Field Grade guns. Ithaca only made about 300 or so of the Grade 2 in 28ga., SO THIS GUN IS VERY RARE INDEED! Even more importantly, this gun CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH A 14 5/8” LOP TO THE DECORATIVE FACTORY BUTTPLATE. That is ½” longer than most any other you will ever see. The gun retains 60% factory original case color, 96% factory blue, all factory original wood with a strong original factory finish, no cracks or repairs, clear sharp Grade 2 engraving, all in a 5lb. 14oz. package with perfect mechanics. The barrels are tight on face and hinge pin, ribs are tight, and the forend has a decorative ebony inlay in the tip. A very nice-looking Ithaca. If you try and compare this gun to Parker’s Grade 2 gun, or GH grade, the price of the Parker with this factory condition would cost 5 times as much as the Ithaca. Ithaca small bore guns represent the very best value in today’s shooter/collector market with relatively low cost that will surely increase the most in value during the next 5 years. The 26” barrels are choked at IC/F (.007/.018 constrictions) making it the ultimate upland bird gun as well as a fun gun to shoot pee-wee competition at the vintage side x side shoots. What a great piece of American gun art that is just as fun to shoot today as it was 95 years ago. Thanks for looking!
