Ithaca Grade 4 16 Gauge - NICE ORIGINAL GUN, 80% CASE COLOR
Description: Ithaca Grade 4 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun NICE ORIGINAL GUN, 80% CASE COLOR General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1924, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 7oz, Side by Side Serial Number: 376165 The Ithaca Gun Co. sold more double shotguns than any other American maker of its time, and by a very long margin. The prices, grade for grade, were competitive with the other makers, i.e. Parker, L.C. Smith, Lefever, A.H. Fox, but they sold soooo many more guns. The buying public found Ithaca a better gun. My own observation is that, grade for grade, Ithaca doubles had better wood, far better checkering, often superior engraving, and equal mechanics and handling characteristics than all of the other makers. In today’s world of vintage American doubles, Ithaca is an undervalued, under-appreciated shotgun. This gun, sn376165 built in 1924, is no exception, balanced dead on the hinge pin and weighing 6lbs. 7oz. it is a delight in hand. Retaining 80% factory case color, gorgeous engraving, checkering, and wood, this gun is a work of art at a very affordable price. It has great barrels with plenty of wall thickness, mirror bores, choked perfect for upland game, and with nice shooting dimensions it has everything a shooter/collector might want. Graded small gauge Ithaca guns are undervalued in today's market and will soon begin an accelerated climb to begin to match the values of the other makers in similar grades. A Parker or Fox Grade 4, (CH or XE grades respectively) in this condition and gauge would be worth more than 3 times the value of this gun. Ithaca is likely the best investment gun to buy today, as it is just starting to grow in value at a faster rate than the other brands.
