Western Arms Ithaca 20 ga. built in 1936
Description: UPDATE: 7/26/2024: Sale pending to Reid. A gentleman contacted me about the gun today. He asked about the receiver. I told him (to the best of my ability, because I am not really good with colors), that it had kind of a "plum colored" look to it. I have seen this before in guns from the 1930's, because they are, of course, older, and sometimes the metal coloring is affected over time. Hope this helps . . . . For sale is a Western Arms Ithaca 20 ga. shotgun that was manufactured in 1936. As far as shipping is concerned, the gun can easily be broken down to send. That will save quite a bit on the shipping charges. Depending on how far you are away from Ohio, it might be shipable for around $30-$35 or so. NOTE: If you click on the first two pictures, then a picture of the full gun will pop up . . . . The "Western Arms" Ithacas were the "Economy Model" of the Ithaca Shotgun line. They were advertised by Ithaca as a "Durable Double" in advertsing promotions. This particular gun is a 20 ga.with 28" barrels choked Mod. and Full. Ithaca, by 1936, had standardized the newer chamber lengths in their line, and this gun has 2 3/4" chambers as manufactured. Additionally, Ithaca used a numbering system on the "Barrel Flats" on the bottom of the barrels, and the numbers are "2" and "4," indicationg the chokes. Ithaca's numbering system was used as follows: "0" for Cylinder choke, "1" for Improved Cylinder choke, "2" for Modified choke, "3" for Improved Modified choke, "4" for Full choke, and "S" for Skeet choke. The gun is compltetely original from "stem to stern" and is in very good plus overall condition. From the butt to the muzzle it is exactly like it left the factory. I consulted Walt Snyder's serial number listings for the Ithaca doubles, and came up a total manufacture of 7099 Western Arms doubles in 1936. If you divide that number by 12 (months in the year) you come up with a monthly total of 591 guns produced a month. Counting either forward or backward will get you a determination of the gun being manufactured in October of 1936. As far as the number of guns produced is concerned, you will find less 20 gauge guns than the 12 gauge or 16 gauge guns. Drops are 1 5/8" by 2 1/2." You cannot beat a 20 gauge gun for upland hunting. LOP is 14 1/8." Take a look at the pictures . . . they are (by far) the best indicator of the condition of the gun. I do not not think that the gun has been fired that much . . . the top lever is very right of center . . . if you remove the forend from the gun, the barrels and action are "rock solid" in that position--indicating the gun is tight "on face". The gun weighs 6 pounds, 4 1/8 oz. Call or email if you have any questions. Thank you.
