Ithaca 6E SINGLE BARREL TRAP – 1919, 32”, 99% FACTORY, PROVENANCE, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1919, 12 Gauge, Weight 8lbs 3oz, Chokes IM, LOP 14 13/16", DAH 2", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 306127T When reviewing the Ithaca Gun Company’s single barrel trap offerings, we know the Flues “One-Barrel Trap Gun” was introduced late in 1914, with the first guns shipping in 1915. Ithaca Gun Company was at its zenith, outselling Parker Brothers by 2 to 1 in the side x side guns. It was even more lopsided when compared to A.H. Fox or Lefever Gun Co. Only L.C. Smith sales could be compared to Ithaca. The unveiling of their One-Barrel Trap Gun was the start of Ithaca’s dominance in the single barrel trap gun world that lasted from inception to the end of production of the Knick model in 1980. This Grade 6E Flues SBT, sn306127 produced in 1919, is a very rare GRADE 6E, THE LEAST ENCOUNTERED GRADE OF THE ITHACA SBT GUNS. If you look at the old Ithaca catalogues, or Walt Snyder’s seminal book “THE ITHACA GUN COMPANY, FROM THE BEGINNING” you will see that the Grade 6 engraving pattern is full coverage of foliate style engraving with 3 different colors of solid gold making up the inlaid trap shooter and Indian figure. Most likely engraved by Edward Laytham, one of the finest engravers of the early 20th century, THIS GUN RETAINS ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES ON THE METAL AND WOOD, RETAINING A SOLID 98% OVERALL CONDITION AND 99% VIVID FACTORY CASE COLOR. The 32” barrel is choked Improved Modified with a mirror bore and 2 ¾” chamber retaining 98% rust blue, crisp rib matting, double ivory beads, and ventilated rib that is in perfect shape. The action has a triple lock up with the barrel, including an under bolt on the barrel lug and two locking bolts engaging barrel extensions that mate with the action. This is a strong and reliable lock up system and fully ready for steady competition even in today’s world and with today’s target ammo. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, having been stripped to its smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned, inspected, lubricated and reassembled so you can have confidence in your purchase of a 102-year-old gun. The wood is in beautiful shape, with nicely figured buttstock, crisp flor-de-lis checkering, and nice modern dimensions of 14 13/16” x 2” x 1 ½” x ¼” cast off to a Genuine Silvers period pad. This is a treasure of a find with its deeply hand chiseled engraving, delicate gold inlays, extreme rarity, and the superb factory original condition. INCLUDED WITH THE GUN IS A FACTORY LETTER NOTING THAT THIS GUN WAS SHIPPED FOR THE GRAND AMERICAN TRAP SHOOT IN 1919 FOR FAMOUS CANADIAN CHAMPION TRAP SHOOTER JOHN S. BOA. IT WAS THEN DELIVERED TO ANOTHER CHAMPION AL KOYEN. BOTH WERE PROMINENT WINNERS AT THE GRAND AMERICAN TRAP EVENTS. Included is a hard case with Ithaca trade label valued at $450. This gun is ready to go and needs nothing but ammunition and a place to go have fun breaking targets. Look at the photos and you will see a gun that can hold its own on the trap line with its 4 ½” long choke constriction and crisp target trigger pull. If this were a modern day Kreighoff, Perazzi, or Kolar with this much hand engraving and quality of wood it would cost well over $20,000. This gun is a fraction of that cost and will compete with their best. Nice gun and priced to sell, so don’t miss out on this one. Thanks for looking!
