KRIEGHOFF ~ WALDSHUTZ "FOREST PROTECTOR" ~ 16GA/7.57R
Description: Krieghoff has been around for a long, long time and has a reputation for finest firearms. The "Lugers" they produced were the best and are highly sought after, and the clay target crowd is also well aware of them. They were, and are, an innovative company being the first to promote short barreled "drillings" for everyday use. They went so far as to build a test weapon and chopped it down incrementally to show how little effect the shortening of barrels actually has on accuracy. Sight radius has a say, but a short barrel and a long barrel act essentially alike from an accuracy standpoint. That leads to the Waldshutz drilling. The gun is two 16 gauge shotgun barrels over a 7x57r rifle barrel. Drillings are associated with the Africa safari, and this gun is called the a "Safari" in some sources. The name actually translates as "Forest Protector" or "Forest Guard" and the case could be made that a Game Warden or Guide in Bavaria could make really good use of a short, 7#3oz rifle/shotgun drilling, hence the name. This one was used a bit and shows that use in the wood with a bunch of scratches, but none are severe. The metal is actualy quite good.
