L.C. Smith Premier Skeet 20ga.- 1 of 77 MADE, RARE, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1949, 20 Gauge, 7lbs, Chokes SK1/SK2, LOP 14" rear trigger, DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: fws51786 The game of skeet had become very popular by 1929 when Hunter Arms introduced its "SKEET SPECIAL” which remained in production until 1945. When Marlin Firearms Co. bought Hunter Arms Co., Inc. in that same year the Skeet Special was discontinued. Marlin needed to add another skeet gun to their line of L.C. Smith double guns and in 1949 the Premier Skeet was introduced with all of the great features of a quality skeet gun; raised Single Sighting Plane rib, SST, ejectors, barrels choked SK1 and SK2, double ivory beads, straight stock, checkered butt, and a special "Skeet" style beavertail forend, made of nicely figured walnut, hand engraved and checkered, all coming together to make a handsome package. The Premier Skeet in 20 gauge is a rare gun, with only 77 ever made and discontinued in 1950 signaling the end of production for all L.C. Smith shotguns. This fine example, sn51786 made in 1949, retains about 80% factory original case color, 98% factory barrel blue, and 90% trigger guard blue. What a great investment quality firearm that is equally at home chasing birds or clays. The barrels have mirror bores, 2 3/4" chambers, double ivory beads, no dents or dings, strong well-timed ejectors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, ribs tight. The Featherweight frame has perfect screws, clear sharp engraving, crisp single selective trigger, action tight with lever right of center, all in excellent mechanical condition. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. It has been stripped, Ultrasonic cleaned, inspected, lubricated, and reassembled, ready for another 70 years of service! The original, well figured, feather crotch walnut retains 100% of a new TruOil finish, clear hand checkering, no cracks, English style stock with 14” LOP to a checkered butt (from a rear trigger position, the LOP is long), graceful Skeet style beavertail, just a beautiful set of wood. For target games we usually like heavier guns to help smooth our swing and reduce felt recoil. That is evident with the Premier Skeet at 7lbs. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, it handles and mounts nicely, and swings smoothly and with authority. WE HAVE A L.C. SMITH COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION ORDERED AND ON THE WAY THAT GOES WITH THE GUN. What a fun gun for a vintage shoot! And with the Single Sighting Plane rib you don't see the two barrels. It is like sighting down an O/U set of barrels. Nice! Thanks for looking.
