Alfred Lancaster 12 Bore Boxlock Non-Ejector with Sidelever and 29” Nitro Damascus Barrels
Description: *** SOLD *** This handsome Anson & Deeley patent boxlock was made by the highly respected London gunmaker, Alfred Lancaster, circa 1885. Lancaster was well known as the premier barrel maker of the period and these nicely figured nitro Damascus barrels do not disappoint. This great handling game gun also features the sought-after sidelever opening along with a highly figured French walnut stock and forearm. Sir Ralph Payne-Gallwey’s patent game counter is inlet on the top rear of the comb. Cased in a refurbished oak & leather case with maker’s label it makes a great impression. It has an auto safety and weighs 6lb 9oz. Serial number 4343. *** The 29” nitro Damascus barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges and are topped by a raised solid concave game style rib. The right barrel is bored 0.735 with a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.026. The left barrel is also bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.012 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The barrels were re-browned recently by Buck Hamlin but there are a few small wear marks. Perfect choking for clays and game. *** The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made from French walnut and are beautifully figured. Checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 15-1/8” including a 1-1/4” leather pad by 1-5/8” by 2-1/8”. Slightly cast off for the righthand shot with a few small handling marks. *** The period oak & leather case has been professionally refurbished and looks great with its interestingly shaped brass corners. Included with the gun is a pair of Damascus snap caps engraved with the maker’s name and serial number of the gun. *** This is a great example of an English game gun by a well-respected London maker. It’s handling characteristics, quality construction, and handsome appearance will make you proud to uncase it at the range or carry it for a day afield. *** Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense. SOLD Antique: Yes |
