This is a fabulous light weight best bar action 12 bore double gun, from a renowned maker. Shortly after purchasing this gun I sent it to Briley’s and had the chambers lengthened to 2 3/4”, and lengthened the forcing cones, they also installed thin wall flush choke tubes, it comes with a set of 8, suitable for any type shooting situation and the changing tool. Others could be added at the owner’s discretion, but with this complete assortment from cylinder to full it should not be necessary. This has been my go to game and clays gun for many years. It is light weight at 6 lbs. 3.5 ozs. and a pleasure to carry in the field. I have shot grouse, sage, ruffed, and blue, pheasants, rabbits, and even a few ducks with it, and yes, many clays. It is in excellent condition, tight, with bright bores, no pitting or haze, with a real ivory bead front sight. Percussion style fences, spring return firing pins. This gun has a straight grip beautiful highly figured stock and splinter forend. This is a very early breech loader according to the serial number made between 1865 and 1868 and has a muzzle loading style forend key and can easily be hand removed for take down. Interestingly the top lever on this very early breechloader has a curve to clear the right hammer. It is marked 1 of a pair and the replacement steel barrels added in antiquity by Lang. If necessary the trigger pull can easily be lengthened by adding a leather or other longer pad. I have loved and enjoied this gun for many years and it is said we never own a best gun we are simply caretakers for it until the next and that time has come.
