1 of just 27 made in this grade, 4 with this barrel length, and the only one in this configuration - an incredible rarity! Exceptional and fine quality, this Premier Grade target configured Smith needs no introduction. It is featured prominently in Houchins book "The Legend Lives" on pages 219, 220, 222, & 223. This gun with beavertail forend, Hunter One SST, auto ejectors, straight grip buttstock and original auto safety and incredibly rare factory ventilated rib!
The gun is extremely fine made on a Regular weight frame with 30" Whitworth barrels that have ventilated rib. Original beavertail forend is very finely checkered with Schnabel tip. The frame is full coverage scroll and game engraved with gold dogs on each lock and gold grape vines on fences. Some of the best engraving on these high end Smiths is seen on the Premier Grade guns and this one is no exception. The buttstock is of extremely high quality European Walnut and checkered with ribands through the wrist. Simply stunning work.
The gun remains in superb overall condition as partially restored. The barrels retain nearly all of their professional best quality rust blue. Action retains about 70% of what appears to be its original case color. Forend appears original and retains about 95% of its hand rubbed finish. Buttstock is an exceptional factory quality replacement and retains its near perfect factory quality custom finish. Bores are brilliant and shiny and mechanics are crisp.
