L.C. Smith Specialty Grade 16 Gauge – SST, EJ, 1924, GREAT WOOD, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1924, 16 Gauge, 6lb 13oz, Chokes SK/IC, LOP 13 3/4" rear trigger, DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: FWE69827 This fine upland gun made by L.C. Smith (Hunter Arms) in 1924, SNFWE69827, is ready to chase your favorite upland birds or smash clay targets with real class. This Elsie is a very attractive doublegun, with finely figured European walnut with a fine hand-rubbed oil finish, excellent checkering, superb wood-to-metal fit, richly rust blued barrels, 90% factory trigger guard blue, and 30% of the factory case colors still showing though faded thin. Examine the photos closely and you will note that the engraving is definitively better and more defined than later L.C. Smith Specialty Grade guns. This fine Specialty Grade 16ga. is one of only 720 ever built, and only 118 had 26” barrels and only 74 had Hunter One Trigger. From a shooter’s standpoint, this is one of those “magic wand” Elsies, one that weighs just 6 3/4lbs. pounds and balances just perfect on the hinge pin. This gun is mechanically excellent as well, being a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, the action and forend iron having been stripped to its smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned, each part inspected for integrity and function, properly lubricated and reassembled, ready for another 97 years of service. The ejectors are strong and well-timed, the selective Hunter One Trigger functions exactly as designed, the gun has excellent screws and bores, double ivory beads, barrels tight as new on hinge pin and breech face with the top lever well right of center. With only 720 16ga. Specialty Grade guns produced and likely less than 650 left on the planet, it is an investment quality gun that will increase in value as you enjoy its use. If you are a shooter who loves gorgeous wood, fine hand engraving, and nice options on your vintage gun, this one is for you. The 13 ¾” LOP is measured from a rear-position trigger. If this were a two-trigger gun the LOP would measure 14 5/8”, so the stock is not short. The stock dimensions are very modern, and the Hawkins pad is an original vintage pad, not a reproduction. With the growth of the L.C. Smith Collector’s Association and the competitive vintage shoots with the Parker Gun Collectors Association and the A.H. Fox Gun Collectors Association, the demand for fine Elsies has been on the rise. We all know that increased demand equals rising prices. Now is the time to invest in this fine collectible shotgun, just in time for your upland season, some clay shooting, and seeing that Christmas is so close, a fitting Christmas gift to yourself or loved one. The photos of this gun will help you note the THE BEST in Specialty Grade engraving, a gun with no splits or cracks, and a gun that needs no attention other than some time and ammunition.
