L.C. Smith Field Grade 12 Gauge – 98% FACTORY FINISHES, ULTRALIGHT, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1926, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 11oz, Chokes M/F, LOP 14", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: FW89289 Hunter Arms Company, Inc. built a LOT of 12ga. Field Grade guns, 127,255 in all, so there is nothing “rare” about an Elsie Field Grade 12ga. gun. The L.C. Smith gun was America’s only commercially successful sidelock action shotgun, and they were stoutly made and the action was simple and ultimately reliable. The Field Grade was an affordable, entry level shotgun that many families fed themselves with and had generations of use throughout the country. Most you find show hard use, lacking much of the original finish, many with cut buttstocks, added pads, cracked wood, loose actions, pitted metal, and a great number of problems. Occasionally, we find a true treasure, and here we have one of them. This L.C. Smith Field Grade, snFW89289 built by Hunter Arms in 1926, has seen little use and retains 98% FACTORY FINISHES ON BARRELS, ACTION, AND TRIGGER GUARD, RETAINS ALL ORIGINAL PARTS, WITH SOME FINISH ADDED TO THE BUTTSTOCK SOMETIME IN THE PAST. The action retains 98% vivid case color with only light wear on the bottom of the action. The barrels retain 98% factory blue and mirror bores, tight ribs, and fit tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face. The action has near perfect screws, superb mechanics, being a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. OUR VFI GUNSMITHS STRIPPED THE ACTION TO THE SMALLEST PARTS, ULTRASONIC CLEANED ALL PARTS, SCRUBBED EACH PART TO BARE METAL, INSPECTED ALL FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, READY FOR DECADES MORE SERVICE. The triggers are crisp, the top lever well right of center, and the gun came from the factory with 2 ¾” chambers. Many who know the L.C. Smith double gun recognize that even guns built on a FEATHERWEIGHT FRAME rarely weigh under 7lbs., with most averaging about 7 1/4lbs. or more. THIS IS A VERY UNUSUAL FIND IN THAT THE GUN IS AN ULTRALIGHT, TIPPING THE SCALES AT 6LBS. 11OZ. WITH ITS 28” BARRELS. This is a gun you can take afield all day long and not feel the fatigue you do with a heavy gun. What a superb upland gun for pheasants or other western birds. Equally at home on the sporting clays course or trap field for brushing up on your skills, or to participate in the many vintage doublegun shoots we see around the country today. Best of all, you can own a beautiful, near-new Elsie for a very affordable price. Don’t miss out on this high-condition gun that has been fully serviced and ready for trouble free use this coming season. Thanks for looking!
