L.C. Smith Ideal 20 Gauge - 32" BARRELS, EJECTORS, 1 OF 64 MADE
Description: L.C. Smith Ideal 20 Gauge SxS 32" BARRELS, EJECTORS, 1 OF 64 MADE General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1992, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 9oz, Side by Side Serial Number: FWE46562 The Ideal Grade L.C. Smith is the first level of a "graded" Elsie, with open foliate engraving pattern, nicer wood and checkering than the Field grade, and the banjo style forend latch rather than a snap on forend. They made around 3659 Ideal Grades in 20ga., so it is not a "rare" gun. However, this Featherweight gun, snFWE46562 made in 1922, is VERY RARE, as only 64 were made with the long, graceful 32" barrels, and only 1/2, or about 32 total were made with 32" barrels and ejectors. At least a few of those have disappeared from the face of the earth, so this really is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a 32" 20ga. Elsie at an affordable price. Some Elsies have a delicate balance in hand, making you believe they are true lightweight guns. This gun is just such a gun. Weighing 6 1/2 LBS. and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin, I was surprised when I put her on the scale. I would have guessed 6lbs. Not at all barrel heavy and being made in 1922 it was made with more care than some of the later guns that felt so clunky with that tall rib. Add the nice factory original condition to all of the metal and nicely restored wood, and you have a true piece of American history that will serve you well for upland game and vintage clays while continuing to increase in value. The gun is in excellent mechanical condition, with a mid-position Hunter One trigger that works perfectly, strong well timed ejectors, and barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun. Shown in the photos is the inside of the head of the stock and there are no cracks or repairs, so no concerns there. AND THOSE AWESOME 32's!!! Thanks for looking!
