In the world of L.C. Smith 12-gauge shotguns, it is not hard to find a decent Ideal Grade…they made 18,000 of them total.  However, to find one that is FACTORY AS NEW AND NO COMPROMISES is indeed rare and an Elsie like that will bring a premium price.  There are many 90% guns, a good number of 95% guns, but only a handful that exceed 99% bold, vivid factory condition.  Those last few percentage points of condition is what separates common from the best on the planet!  This beautiful L.C. Smith Ideal Grade on a Regular weight frame is that gun; showing as new in all ways and NOT A RESTORED GUN.   It still has the factory jeweling marks on the breech face of the barrels.  The barrels, forend escutcheon, triggers, trigger guard, forend iron all have 99% dark factory blue with no wear.  The action has 99%+ bold, vivid factory case color, perfect screws, sharp clear floral style engraving.  The 30” barrels have perfect bores, reinforced forend lug, tight ribs, and they fit tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun.  The wood is in the same, pristine condition with no cracks or splits and checkering that is still sharp showing no wear.  You certainly won’t find a higher factory original condition Ideal Grade anywhere.  It has been shot, so you can enjoy using the gun while it continues to gain value as a highly prized collectible Elsie.  The best thing about an Ideal Grade is that it is an affordable gun that most can afford.  We all know that the best guns to buy are the high-condition, factory original guns.  Weighing 7lbs. 13oz. and balanced about 1” forward of the hinge pin, I can’t imagine a better dove, turkey, goose, or crow gun.  Choked a true F/F, it will reach out and tag game or targets at 50 yards plus! Look closely at the photos and you will find an Elsie that cannot be surpassed when it comes to condition.  Thanks for looking, and don’t let this one get away!
