U.S Military marked L.C Smith Ideal grade 12 gauge with 26" barrels. Choked modified and skeet. The finish on the barrels is about 97% and has turned a light plum color. The locks and balance of the action has about 97% case color. Wood is solid with no cracks, dents or scratches. The forend looks as if it has had some additional finish or has been refinished. A white line pad has been added giving a L.O.P of 14 3/4 inches to the front trigger. Bores are bright and shiney. In Col. Brophy's book on the L.C Smith he states this is on of approximately 1535 and one of only 23 ideal grades that we purchased by the U.S Army that were used in training of Aerial gunners during World War II in the 1942-1943 timeline. The underside of the barrels are stamped with U.S Ordinance stamps as well as the USA F.
I suspect this gun was added to an order at the request of some officer for personal use. Overall it is in excellent condition and would enhance any military collection.
