L.C. Smith Specialty 12 Gauge - ENGLISH STOCK, 32”, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1922, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 15oz, Chokes F/F, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 9/16", DAC 1 7/8" Serial Number: RE46828 Why are some guns more expensive, more desirable than others that are labeled the same? Take this gun for example. They made 5000 L.C. Smith Specialty Grade guns in 12ga., but only 1831 of them with 32" barrels like this one. Of those 1831 guns, only about 180 of them had an English style grip. The wood on this gun is very nicely figured, much better than most Specialty Grade guns. Only ½ of the Specialty Grades had Hunter One triggers. Desirability and rarity of special-order features makes for a more desirable and valuable gun. This fine Specialty Grade, snRE46828 built in 1922, has a lot going for it. Of course, the items mentioned above are present in this gun. Built on L.C. Smith’s heaviest Regular Frame and weighing in at 7lbs. 15oz, she was built for heavy work like waterfowl, turkey, long range doves, and late season pheasants. With the long barrels and Full/Full chokes I am sure she would hold her own on the trap line as well! The gun balances perfectly in hand ¼” in front of the hinge pin for solid barrel swing and follow through. The mechanics of the gun are excellent, this being a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, the action and forend iron having been stripped to the smallest part, cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner, all parts inspected for function and integrity, lubricated, and reassembled (a $325 service in our shop). The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and standing breech, ribs are tight, bores are in great shape, top lever is well right of center, single selective trigger and ejectors work as they should, and the screws are all in good shape. The barrels and trigger guard have been reblued and nicely done. The wood has been nicely restored with a hand-rubbed oil finish and checkering excellent throughout. The original pad was hard as a rock, so we installed a genuine Silvers pad for that vintage authenticity. A gun like this would have come with a pad from the factory more than likely. The bore diameters are factory, wall thickness on both barrels is generous, and the chambers are 2 ¾” with 1 ½” extended forcing cones (a $360 service). This gun is ready to rock! We have 4 full time gunsmiths so we can change dimensions, chokes, etc. at your request without a wait. This gun has it all...only 180 with English stock and 32" barrels... so rare, desirable features, and knock out wood. It will be a gun for you to enjoy as it gains in value. All who see it will want it. Thanks for looking!
