Lefever A Grade 20 Gauge, FACTORY 99% CONDITION AWESOME
Description: Lefever A Grade 20 Gauge Side by Side FACTORY 99% CONDITION, AWESOME General Specs: Lefever, Year 1936, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 4oz, SxS Serial Number: 301652 There is much confusion when a vintage double gunner sees the name “Lefever” in a gun ad. Many are not aware that Ithaca bought the Lefever Arms Co. in 1916 and produced a few of these sideplated guns designed by Dan Lefever until production ceased in 1919 and Ithaca moth balled the Lefever name. In 1922 the Ithaca Gun Co. produced the “Lefever Nitro” using the well-known name of Dan Lefever to call attention to their affordable but well-made double shotguns. They utilized this concept to label the Lefever A Grades, with nicer wood and metal finishing, sculpted frames, better checkering, and some line engraving that were much nicer versions of the Lefever Nitro. The A Grade looks almost identical to its cousin, the more-costly Ithaca NID, as well it should. The A Grades had case colored receivers like the NID, the barrels were the same as the NID barrels, and the springs, cocking and locking mechanisms are shared by the NID as well. The Model 5, or “A Grade” was produced from 1935 to 1940. They only made 2400 Lefever A Grades in all gauges, with fewer than 800 made in 20ga., making this a somewhat rare gun. This gun, sn301652 made in 1936, is essentially an “as new” gun, with 99% factory case color and blue, 99% wood finish, perfect bores, screws, and mechanics, just a gorgeous MINT CONDITION GUN. The 28” barrels are choked F/F, no dents or dings, tight as new on hinge pin and breech face. Weighing in at a svelte 6lbs. 4oz. and balanced delightfully between the hands, with great modern shooting dimensions (14” LOP, 2 1/2” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb), you will find this a very attractive, affordable little 20ga. vintage American double that will serve you well for decades to come. You rarely see vintage double guns in as new condition that you can actually afford and justify carrying afield. A great little investment gun that will increase in value as you enjoy its use, so long as you take good care of it. Thanks for looking!
