Midland Gun Co. 12-bore BLNE Cast for Left Shoulder
Description: On offer is a beautifully-maintained Midland Gun Co. 12-bore boxlock non-ejector, handmade during the golden age of British gunmaking (1934) to a standard no longer attainable except at astromically-high prices. Better yet, the gun is stocked for the left shoulder, with a long 15" length of pull, and chambered for 2 3/4" catridges. The very modestly-engraved action highlights the truly-elegant shape of the gun, and the stock, hand finished in oil, has a high degree of very-pleasing figure and fine, perfectly-executed checkering. In the hands, the gun begs to come up to the cheek and shoulder--a hallmark of British guns, which were hand-finished to acheive perfect balance. A truly instinctive gun to shoot. It would feel like a magic wand in the possession of a left-handed shooter. The barrels are very nicely struck off, the rib is arrow straight, trigger pulls crisp, and the gun closes up bank-vault tight with a solid "clunk." Also features a Greener-style crossbolt third bite. The top lever is still to the right of center, indicating that the sliding underbolt is properly engaged with the lumps. Wood-to-wood and metal-to-metal fit is excellent. A slight bit of metal pitting at the very extreme end of the action strap directly behind the safety catch. A perfect gun for clays or upland shooting. One very nice thing about non ejectors is that there is almost nothing that can go wrong with the gun, as malfunctioning ejectors are the most-common fault seen by gunsmiths, and it is quite sweet to open and close, since you are not cocking two ejector springs. The original barrel blueing is in very good condition, with only a few small areas of frosting near the chambers, and the bores are in a similiarly good order. The stock terminates in an elegantly-shaped ebonite butt plate. The stock shapes are excellent and fit beautifully in the hand. This gun would be an absolute pleasure to shoot at the club or in the field. Please contact me with any questions or request for photos.
