1966 Vintage Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun 12 Gauge Bolt-Action Shotgun
** Beautiful Example **
Description: This July of 1966 production Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun is as nice of one as we have seen in a very long time. Introduced in 1962 and manufactured until 1996, the 12 gauge Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun features a bolt-action repeater design with a factory gloss blue finish, a 36" inch barrel choked "Full", a 2-shot detachable box magazine, and an American Walnut stock with factory-installed sling swivels and a factory red recoil pad. The extremely long barrel of this shotgun was designed to extend the range and keep the pattern tight for shooting waterfowl, turkeys, and any other game the owner sees fit to take with it. The 2-shot magazine with one in the barrel gives the gun a 3-shot capacity, and while the gun came from the factory with only a brass bead front sight, the receiver is drilled and tapped at the left rear for attaching an adjustable peep sight. The Model 55 Goose Gun was a success for the most part, particularly with northern waterfowl hunters and competitive shooters competing in "Turkey Shoots" all over the U.S. (traditional rural target competition with shotguns, with the typical grand prize being a farm-raised turkey). This 1966 Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun is in beautiful shape, with the all-original factory blue finish rating 95%. The only finish deductions are from some minor handling/storage marks and a few small spots of prior surface rust on the barrel and magazine. As you can see from the pictures provided, these deductions are very minor and only visible under close inspection. They do not detract much at all from the clean and attractive overall look of this shotgun. The original gold color finish on the trigger that is so often missing on these guns is like-new on this one, rating 99%. The bore in the 3 foot long barrel is minty and mirror-bright. There is no visible pitting, dents, bulges, or imperfections of any kind. The original stock on this Marlin is in spectacular condition, free from any cracks, chips, damage, or repairs. The wood is nearly flawless and it is a beautiful and consistent light brown color from one end to the other. All of the stock hardware is in excellent condition and intact, including the original factory-installed sling swivels and white spacer/recoil pad. All of the controls on this Goose Gun are in perfect working order, and the action is smooth and precise. The bolt turns into battery perfectly, and the trigger breaks nicely without any slop. This Marlin Model 55 should function like it left the factory last week rather than 53 years ago. This shotgun comes with an original period leather sling and the original factory 2-shot magazine. If you have been looking for a cool vintage Marlin to add to your collection here is your chance to get a beautiful all-original and un-molested Model 55 Goose Gun.
