Marlin Factory Engraved Model 24 Grade C Takedown Slide Action Shotgun, 12 Ga. Trades Welcome

Description:
1910 mfg. Marlin model 24 Grade C Factory Engraved Takedown Pump Action Shotgun, 12 ga, 30'' barrel choked full with a bright excellent bore. This shotgun has seen a bit of honest field use but remains a fine showcase of Marlin's factory engraving featuring a lovely marshland scene on the left side with four ducks in flight surrounded by light filigree and foliate scrollwork motifs. The right side shows another foliate roundel with light filigree and a pair of grouse on the bolt. There is some additional light zigzag borders and a palm frond motif on bottom around serial number. The barrel and magazine tube retain about 70% original rust blue with some scattered oxidation staining and toning to medium gray patina, the rear of the magazine tube with an area of thin scratches. The action retains generous bright blue flaking to gray and showing some more areas of old oxidation staining and pinprick pitting. Some of the screw heads show old slot wear and the right edge rear of firing pin is damaged slightly but this is relatively unobtrusive and the hammer retains generous case-hardened colors. The underside of the barrel shows stamped number ''111303F'' and all markings and embellishments remain intact and quite strong. The checkered pistolgrip deluxe walnut buttstock and forend rate very good plus as lightly cleaned and refinished showing some scattered light dings and handling marks with lightly worn checkering. The stocks otherwise exhibit lovely grain figure throughout and the butt is fitted with a period solid red rubber Noshoc pad providing a 13 1/4'' length-of-pull. The gun is sighted with single brass bead and the action seems to function well mechanically.   Receiver features elaborate factory engraving: Left side typically shows a marsh/waterfowl scene (e.g., four ducks in flight within an oval/roundel) surrounded by foliate scrollwork and light filigree. Right side often has a game bird scene (e.g., grouse/pigeons) with additional scroll. Bolt and bottom may have palm frond or zigzag border motifs.
•  Higher-grade wood (checkered pistol grip and forend) and overall finer fit/finish compared to standard field grades (A/B).
•  These engraved variants (Grades C/D especially) are scarce and highly desirable as “works of art” from Marlin’s early 20th-century shotgun production. A rare example of a factory engraved Marlin model 24 for your investment arms collection.
