Scarce GRADE C Factory Engraved MARLIN Model 1898 Slide Action SHOTGUN C&R
With Game Scene Featuring Ducks & Doves
Description: Scarce GRADE C Factory Engraved MARLIN Model 1898 Slide Action SHOTGUN C&R With Game Scene Featuring Ducks & Doves Here we present a C&R Grade C Factory Engraved J.M. Marlin Model 1898 Slide Action Shotgun manufactured circa the turn of the century in New Haven, Connecticut. This was made to compete with the Winchester Model 1893 and the Model 1897 shotguns. Marlin hammer shotguns were lighter than their Winchester 1897 competitor and provided a clear, flat-top receiver sight line. This one has the inertia lock that prevented slam fire and the small button to release the breech block. Manufactured from 1898 to 1905, this model was Marlin's first commercially sold shotgun. Marlin manufactured an estimated 55,000 of these shotguns during their seven years of production. These Model 1898 shotguns featured exposed hammers, takedown frames and receivers which look similar to the larger caliber lever action rifles of Marlin. It came standard with a single steel bead sight, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and a full choke. The top of the barrel near the breech is marked with the two-line address and patent dates. It comes with fine scroll factory engraving with zig-zag bordering and an oval panel with ducks in a marsh scene on the left side. There is scroll engraving on the right side of the receiver and two doves/pigeons in flight. The overall condition is good. Modestly refinished. The action is excellent. The bore has been sleeved and remains smooth and bright. The slide’s wood is original and in good condition. The butt stock has been replaced and shows some chipping along the tangs; otherwise solid and with a thick red rubber pad by Nashoc. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 30 inches Caliber: 12 Gauge Chambers: 2-3/4 Choke: Full LOP: 13-3/8 inches Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
