WEIMAR German MAUSER 98 Bolt Action SHOTGUN
Description: WEIMAR German MAUSER 98 Bolt Action SHOTGUN 12 Gauge Post WWI Conversion Circa 1919 Here we present a German REMO Bolt Action Shotgun Conversion of a Mauser 98 Rifle, made circa the 1920s. With the close of World War I and the imposition of the Treaty of Versailles the German arms industry was in trouble, not to mention the rest of the economy. German arms manufacturers were limited to making primarily sporting arms when most had been busy filling military contracts both domestic and foreign for many years. With the many Mauser 98 bolt action rifles around, several companies began converting them into shotguns for domestic and foreign sales. The Remo and Geha were two of the primary makes. These held two 12 Gauge 2-3/4” shells. This is a nicer example with more time spent crafting the once blocky military stock into something shapelier. This shotgun features a slender profile, checkered pistol grip, Schnabel forearm, and contours around the action. The bolt assembly still bears the original numbers and proof marks, though those on the receiver were removed at the time of conversion. The toe of the steel butt plate is marked “GERMANY”. The left side of the barrel bears an eagle proof mark along with “NITRO”. A sighting bead has been placed on the barrel and a shallow notch milled over the chamber. This shotgun is only 6 lbs. making it very handy. Many seemed to have make their way to the U.S. and into the hands of small game and fowl hunters. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces retain about 70% of the original blue finish. Markings are clear. The walnut stock is in great shape. The bore is bright and smooth. The action is excellent. Here is a great example of German ingenuity from the hard times of the Weimar Republic. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 16-1/2 inches. Caliber: 12 Gauge Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $550 #6044 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
