Gebruder Merkel sidelock 12 gauge. Made in 1926, serial 14761 (4x matching: barrels, action, tang, splinter) has 29.1-inch barrels (F/F, ivory bead, sling loop, 2.5-inch chambers, extractor). Features include cocking indicators, mechanical safety and an articulated forward trigger. STOCK: Wearing a wrap of fine bordered checkering, details include thin ebony diamonds (upper grip, sides), round knob with defined shoulders, scalloped cheek rest with shadow line, sling loop, initial shield (blank) and a checkered butt plate. ENGRAVING: Locks showcase detailed game scenes (pheasants right, partridges left) bordered by fine scroll. The bottom plate is highlighted by an elaborate bouquet with a matching border, the supporting pattern continuing over the lever, tangs, guard, release and screws. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 7.0 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.0 inches, drops are 1.5 and 2.4 inches, and cast off is approximately .40-inch). CONDITION: Bores shine brightly, barrels are full on face and mechanics operate properly. Barrel finish (rust blue, refreshed) is approximately 90 percent with strong markings. Original blue over the guard, lever and tangs is approximately 60 percent. Receiver colors (original) are approximately 35 percent. As refinished, wood is approximately 70 percent with a scattering of impressions - three of moderate significance.
