US Norwich 1865 Trade Gun (Cut down musket)
Description: Weapons such as this were often used by the plains Indian’s and could be found on both sides of the reservation boundaries in the late 19th century. This was a U.S. Springfield Model 1863 rifle-musket and has since been bored out to .62 caliber smoothbore, and sawed off to a 21 inch barrel. It has an overall length of 37 inches. The ramrod is 23 1/2 inches long. The wood has no breaks or cracks and only minor nicks and dings otherwise. The lock is marked"1865" on one side of hammer, on the other is "US" over "Norwich". Right next to the hammer is a Federal Eagle and shield. It has a a mottled grey/brown patina, which is smooth and uncleaned. The lock, hammer, trigger guard, butt, tang, are all in perfect condition and ready for daily use. It is however missing the musket nipple. Most blackpowder shops have these. It is a good sound horseback or canoe gun. The tacks on the stock make me think that it might have been a reservation gun and the inlaid medallion on the right side of the stock reads US INDIAN SERVICE. It sure is interesting. Other items are not included. This is an ANTIQUE and can be shipped directly to you. (adult signature required) this is an Antique and I think a good sound shooter. No guarantees, warranties, or liabilities for any actual usage. If any firearms are to be used for shooting purposes, a qualified gunsmith should inspect them first. We will ship outside the U.S.A.
