VERY RARE
WWII Ithaca 37 Trench gun
Description: This shotgun is one of only 1420 Trench shotguns made by Ithaca during the early months of WWII. I traded for this shotgun at the Wannemaker show in Tulsa about 10 years ago. The owner had had it reblued and added a front bead to it. (He also had the heatshield / bayonet lug, in his backpack.) I could see the 3 grooves in the bottom of the barrel where the shroud goes, and a tiny groove worn in the barrel where the back of the shroud contacted the barrel;....no doubt about what I was looking at... The shotgun retains the RLB and ord bomb on the receiver as well as on the barrel. The serial numbers match on the barrel and reciever. # 61479 The oririnal stock retains the original ( reblued ) sling swivel. The reciever shows 5 or so small pitts under the bluing - not a big deal to me... I see no other pitting on the shotgun. I would rather the shotgun was in mint condition....but it is not. What it is is a REALLY hard to find piece of US Military history - in ANY condition ! I reinstalled the shroud , but had to replace the screws, as they were missing. The shotgun cycles just fine and , of course, has the " slam fire " capability. I saw a minty example sell for over $40,000 in the past year or so.... Asking $9500 for this one. Questions welcome. Thank you for looking. USPS money orders only. $50 covers Priority mail and transfer to your FFL or C&R in the lower 48. Insurance would be more.
