Offered for sale is a
matched pair of Charles Lancaster sidelock ejector 12 gauge shotguns, built in
1901 and exemplifying the finest traditions of English “best gun” craftsmanship.
Both guns are fitted with
back-action sidelocks featuring intercepting safety sears (see last photo), along with a
self-opening action and
automatic safeties, providing both elegance and dependable function. The
Southgate ejector system is strong, properly timed, and operates as intended.
The guns are equipped with
lever-release forends, a classic feature of high-grade English doubles. The forend wood shows honest wear and would benefit from re-checkering if desired, though it remains fully serviceable.
Barrels are
30” Whitworth fluid steel,
nitro proofed for 1 1/8 oz loads, and chambered for
2 3/4” shells. Bores are bright and measure:
- Gun #3: .733
- Gun #4: .730
Both guns are choked
Improved Cylinder and Modified, offering excellent versatility in the field or on clays.
The pair is properly marked
#3 and #4, as expected for a true matched set.
