Parker Brothers ~ Grade 1 - Hammer Gun ~ 10 Ga.
Description: Parker Grade 1 Hammer Gun in 10 Gauge. Manufactured in 1888 (SN: 55595). This old classic 10 gauge Parker Bros double barrel shotgun features 30" Twist barrels ("Twist" marked on rib), 2 7/8" chambers, extractors, double triggers, rebounding firing pins and rebounding hammers, checkered walnut stocks, pistol grip with original cap and butt-plate, checkered with sporting dog relief figure, silver initial shield, splinter forend with decorative metal tip and release lever. This 131 year old (and counting) antique Parker Bros. shotgun is in fair to good condition. The serial numbers are all matching to the action, barrels, forend hardware and trigger-guard. The barrels’ contrasting shades of greys and browns are quite appealing, especially with the protective clear coat, and the barrels chime like church bells! There are some minor exterior scratches and nicks, and some pitting in the bores but there are no deep pits. The action is tight to the buttstock wood, however there is no remaining cased colors and very little patina. The hammers operations, cock, strike and rebound are very good, and the triggers let off/pull are very good as well. The firing pins are in good working order and the return springs are doing their job. The barrels to breech-face lockup is a little loose, which the vast majority of antique double guns are, and most are a bit looser than this gun. The forend and butt-stock wood is very sound with no cracks or deep scratches, but there is a little loss of wood along the edges of trigger-guard. The stocks have been sanded and refinished with a glossy lacquer/varnish finish, which was probably done about a decade or so ago, unfortunately the checkering is nearly completely worn off. On the bright side, the Parker checkered butt-plate with sporting dog figure is in very good shape for its age, but there is some worn checkering at the heel and couple of small worn chips at the toe. Measurements: 14 1/4" LOP; 2" DAC; 3 3/8" DAH; & 1/4" Cast Off. Weight 9 1/2 Lbs.
