Parker Brothers 16-Gauge Top-Action Hammer Gun, 28” Twist Steel Barrels, Size 0 Frame, Mfg 1886, Reconditioned
Description: This Parker Brothers 16-gauge top-action hammer gun, serial number 51327, was manufactured in 1886. The gun has the light weight size 0 frame, and the 28” barrels have the dolls head extension. The barrel flats are marked with the letter T with crescents above and below, indicating a grade 0 gun with plain twist barrels. The receiver and hammers have line engraving. Parker Brothers produced 22,497 such top-action hammer guns in 6 different gauges. However, only 3% (742) were 16-gauge guns. Of these, it is difficult to say how many have survived, given that as field grade guns were used hard and were less likely than their more heavily engraved counterparts to have been well maintained over time. To better preserve this scarce fine firearm for another century of use by hunters and shooters, the stock and forearm are properly reconditioned and the barrels are refinished to their original brown. The color case hardening is redone by Turnbull. Both barrels are choked Modified (.016). The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is 033/.030/.033 and at the middle of the barrel is .033/.031/.035; the left barrel is .028/.026/.029 and .028/.025/.028, respectively. Bores 9” from the breech are .665/.667 respectively, and the outside diameters at the muzzle are .722/728, respectively. Chambers are 2-1/2”. This shotgun weighs 6 lbs 6 oz. The drop at the comb is 2-1/4” and at the heel 3-1/4”. Length of pull is 14-1/4” to the end of the original butt plate. The serial numbers on the action, barrels, and forend metal match. The hammers are from a later (1908) Parker. The gun locks up tight and on face. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt. This shotgun has been fired on the sporting clays range using low pressure 2-1/2” shells produced for Damascus-barreled shotguns by RST Corporation. However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one a hundred and thirty years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed. The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost. The listed price of the gun does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.
