Description:
Manufactured in 1910 and expertly refurbished to its original specifications with a newly manufactured set of barrels and stock, this Parker Bros. gun exemplifies the finest American craftsmanship. The blued steel barrels feature a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, marked “PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN, CONN. ACME STEEL,” with standard remarked markings, light breech engraving, and doll’s head extensions. Chambers measure 2?3/4?inches with automatic ejectors.
The barrels are fitted to the casehardened action displaying A-grade engraving, including Parker Bros. banners on either side and intricate floral scrollwork surrounding detailed oval game scenes: a pair of pointers on the left, a pair of setters on the right, a trio of foxes on the underside, and a running stag on the triggerguard. The action is equipped with double triggers and a tang-mounted automatic safety, and shows Belgian proof marks on the water table.
The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured, fancy checkered walnut forend with Deeley-style latch and engraved fittings, along with a pistol grip stock featuring checkered fleur-de-lis carved flats, a grip cap inscribed “DR. J.W.P./1910,” and an engraved skeleton buttplate over the checkered bare butt.
Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bores nine inches from the breech measure .723/.734 inches; choke constriction .018/.027 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.034 inches; 1?9/16?inch drop at comb; 2?1/2?inch drop at heel; 14?1/4?inch length of pull; weight 8?lbs. 1?oz.
Condition
Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% of the blue and case hardened finishes, minor handling evidence, recut engraving, a few minor marks in the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
