Parker Brothers DH 12-Gauge with Two Sets of Barrels Serial-Numbered to the Gun, Mfg. 1895

Description:
This beautiful Parker Brothers DH 12-gauge is ideal for versatile wingshooters who want to hunt ducks at dawn and grouse or pheasant later in the day.   Also, as serial-numbered multi-barrel sets are scarce, it also should be of interest to collectors.   Manufactured in 1895, it is properly reconditioned to preserve it for another century of use.

The gun is on a number 1-1/2 frame, and both sets of barrels are serial numbered to the gun.  The Parker letter of authentication states that it was purchased with the 30” barrels and later sent back to the factory to be fitted with the 28” barrels.  The 28” barrels are choked Skeet (.005) and Improved Cylinder (.009); the 30” barrels are choked Modified (.020) and Full (.035).  The receiver and other metal have an appropriate patina and no scratches or pitting. The engraving is distinct with the softening one would expect of a gun that has been hunted.  The natural beauty of the well-figured walnut stock is restored by drawing out petroleum-based oils and replacing them with natural oils through the application of a hand rubbed stock oil finish.  The fine Damascus steel barrels, as refinished, are flawless, as are the bores.

The cast on this gun is neutral. The length of pull is 14” to the original skeleton buttplate.  Drop at the comb is 1-7/8 inches and at the heel 3 inches.  Both the 28” and 30” barrels have 2-5/8” chambers.  For the 28” barrels, the wall thicknesses for the right barrel at 9” from the muzzle are .032/.027/.032 (top/side/bottom) and at the middle of the barrel are .033/.030/.033.  For the left barrel the wall thicknesses are .032/.031/.026 and .035/.035/.025, respectively. For the 30” barrels, the wall thicknesses for the right barrels at 9” from the muzzle are .033/.033/.030 and at the middle of the barrel are .038/.041/.035.  For the left barrel the wall thicknesses are .035/.035/.032 and .037/.041/.035, respectively.  The gun weighs 7 lb 6 oz with the 28” barrels.  Both triggers pull at 6 pounds.    The gun locks up tightly, and all serial numbers, 84550, match.

The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  The shotgun has been fired on the range and in the field using low pressure 2-1/2” shells produced for Damascus-barreled shotguns by RST Corporation in Pennsylvania (including shells with bismuth shot for waterfowl hunting).  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one over a 125-years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her own gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.  The gun carries a 30-day warranty, during which Doublegun Preservation will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Stephen Wesbrook, 703-625-4830.
