Parker DHE 20 GA. SKEET - RARE GUN, 1 OF 37 NICE! Vintage Firearms Inc
Description: Parker DHE 20 Gauge Skeet SxS SKEET, RARE GUN, 1 OF 37, NICE! General Specs: Parker, Year 1937, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 15oz, Side by Side Serial Number: 240535 In the world Parker shotguns, the DHE 20ga. is not a rare gun, with over 1,500 produced. The DHE Grade is nicely decorated with game scene engraving on both sides and the bottom of the receiver, nicely executed English scroll and border engraving, drop points on the stock, nicely figured wood, and a skeleton butt plate as standard fare. Most would say the DHE is the start of Parkers “fine gun” line. Those who are aware of Parker Skeet guns, made by both Parker Bros. and Remington/Parker, realize that there is a true rarity when searching for Skeet specific Parkers, with only 37 total production of DHE 20ga. Skeet guns. This fine Parker, sn240535 shipped in 1937, is a bonafide skeet gun, having all the features listed below that defines what makes a “SKEET GUN” a skeet gun (and defined in “THE PARKER STORY” on page 411). A Parker Skeet Gun is not labeled as such but will always have 26” or 28” barrels, SST, Ejectors, beavertail forend, and skeet out/skeet in chokes. Options were available in the way of stock configuration, ivory beads, pads, etc. They often had much nicer wood than a similar DHE field gun and higher stock dimensions. Chokes were not marked on the barrel flats until around 1937, and not consistently until about 1939. Parker Skeet guns were choked tighter in the right barrel for outgoing targets, more open in the left barrel for incoming targets, as this Parker is. The barrels and forend are marked with a #2, indicating that this gun was a two-barrel set. Remington records that remain for Parker production have only basic information regarding guns they produced, and stock configuration and other options are not often shown. Because of this, Remington Parkers are often misidentified in the Parker Serialization and Identification book. There is no question that this gun is factory configured as a Parker Skeet gun. Even better, the engraving on this gun is quite unique, as it has quail engraved on the bottom of the frame rather than pheasants, and the wood is exhibition figured flame walnut that is off the charts for a DHE Grade gun. Gun nuts love wood and this just adds extra value to this fine gun. A Parker Skeet gun is a rare, low production gun with lots of options, and as such a great investment quality shotgun that is a shooting machine on the skeet line or in the field. With the selective single trigger, you can choose which barrel goes off first, allowing for flushing game or incoming targets/game. What a fun gun to shoot, and a rare Parker to invest in and own.
