Parker VHE 28 Gauge - "OO" FRAME, SKEET GUN, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Parker, Year 1937, 28 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, Chokes Skeet/Skeet, LOP 13 7/8" from mid-trigger, DAH 2 7/16", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 238944 In the world of Parkers, the 28 gauge is the Holy Grail. In fact, when considering any vintage American side x side, the 28ga. is scarce and coveted as only Parker and Ithaca made guns in this diminutive gauge. Small bore shooters love the 28ga. as it is so much more capable than a .410 when chasing upland birds and game. Only 1411 28ga. VH grade Parkers were produced, with at least 1/3 of them being made on the 20ga. or "O" frame and hence heavy and less desirable. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF COMPARING THIS GUN TO A HEAVY "0" FRAMED PARKER 28GA. Less than 1000 VH guns were built on the "OO" frame. Of the 1000 very few were shipped with extra options like a single trigger, ejectors, beavertail forend, or a skeleton butt plate. This Parker VHE 28ga., sn238944 built in 1937, has an interesting configuration that requires some knowledge of Parker history to understand how she came to be. Remington bought Parker Brothers in 1934 and continued to build Parker guns until 1942 when World War II broke out, so this is a “Remington Parker”. Remington records document the gun shipped as a 28ga. with 26” barrels and it is an “OO” frame Parker. Barrel stampings show it was returned to Remington/Parker for repairs in 1949 and 1953. The beavertail forearm is factory correct as documented by the one-piece forend loop that only came on Parker guns with beavertails. The gun is definitively an ejector gun produced by Parker. The unusual features of a skeleton butt plate and a Miller single trigger found on a VHE Parker are likely the result of its return to Parker in 1949 and 1953 for repairs or upgrades. Though Parker had its own proprietary single trigger, they would install a Miller trigger upon customer request. From my experience and knowledge, it is likely this gun was returned to Remington to be upgraded to a VHE Skeet gun, as it has open chokes and all the features that define a Parker Skeet Gun, ie. open chokes, single trigger, ejectors, beavertail forend, and high stock dimensions. THEY ONLY MADE 85 PARKER 28GA. VHE GUNS SO CONFIGURED, ACCORDING TO EXISTING RECORDS. This rare and desirable Parker has been restored to new, historically correct condition with 100% metal finishes including rust blued barrels, Turnbull bone and charcoal case colors, Turnbull charcoal blue trigger guard, and a fine hand rubbed oil finish on the stock. The length of pull is measured from the MID POSITION SINGLE TRIGGER. This is a beautiful little upland or skeet gun that weighs 6lbs. 2oz. and feels lively in hand. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. The action and forend iron were Ultrasonic cleaned, inspected, lubricated, and reassembled. The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face and the opening lever is well right of center. The ejectors are strong and timed, and the Miller single trigger is the best there is. Parker 28ga. guns are so rare and desirable that they have never gone down in value…only up. What a great, investment quality Parker “OO” framed 28ga. that will grow in value as you enjoy its use.
