The Perazzi MX8 SCO represents the pinnacle of Perazzi’s artistry and craftsmanship, combining the legendary MX8 competition platform with master-level hand engraving and bespoke finishing. Built in 1973, this exceptional over/under is elevated even further by its rare Claudio Tomasoni engraving package, featuring three distinct scenes depicting Diana, the Goddess of the Hunt, making it both a world-class sporting shotgun and a highly desirable collector's piece.
Chambered in 12 gauge with 2.75" chambers, this MX8 SCO is fitted with 29.25" barrels choked Modified (.023") and Extra Full (.048"), a configuration ideally suited for trap shooting, live birds, driven game, and longer-range target presentations. Weighing 8 pounds 1.5 ounces, the gun provides the smooth swing and stability that helped establish the MX8 as one of the most successful competition shotguns ever built. The ventilated matted rib with red front bead provides a clear and highly visible sight picture.
Built on Perazzi's iconic low-profile receiver, the shotgun incorporates the company's famous detachable trigger group, allowing rapid maintenance and replacement. The gun features a single non-selective trigger, ejectors, and non-automatic safety, all hallmarks of the MX8 platform. The detachable trigger group, action, and barrels remain serial-number matched.
This example remains in good overall condition, showing honest wear typical of age and use. The bores are clear, the trigger is crisp, the action remains smooth and locks up tight, and the ejectors are strong and properly timed.
The true centerpiece of this shotgun is its extraordinary engraving. The coin-finished receiver is adorned with Perazzi engraving scenes #127, #128, and #129, all executed by renowned Italian master engraver Claudio Tomasoni. Each panel depicts a different interpretation of Diana, Goddess of the Hunt, rendered with remarkable detail and artistry. Scene #128 appears on the left side of the action, Scene #127 on the right side, and Scene #129 on the bottom of the receiver. Tomasoni's signature appears within the engraving, further enhancing the gun's collectability and confirming its provenance.
Additional deluxe features include gold-plated internals within the detachable trigger group, gold-finished forend iron components, and gold inlaid "MX8" lettering on the left barrel near the action. The barrels themselves retain their rich blued finish and are fitted with a ventilated mid-rib.
The shotgun wears a high-comb walnut stock paired with a target-style forend. Strong checkering remains throughout the pistol grip and forend, providing both excellent control and visual appeal. The stock dimensions reflect the gun's intended role as a serious competition or driven-game shotgun while maintaining the elegant lines expected of a high-grade Perazzi.
Please refer to the photographs for a detailed view of the overall condition.
This is far more than a standard MX8. It is a highly desirable SCO-grade Perazzi featuring master engraving by Claudio Tomasoni, one of Italy's most respected engravers. Combining the legendary MX8 action with artistic scenes of Diana the Huntress, gold-plated internals, and exceptional craftsmanship, this shotgun stands as both a serious sporting arm and a significant collectible from Perazzi's golden era.
