Built in 1971, this finely balanced game gun features a true sidelock action with single non-selective trigger, ejectors, and non-automatic safety, embodying traditional design with refined execution. The 28" barrels, choked Light Modified (.015") and Improved Modified (.031"), provide excellent versatility for upland or driven shooting, while the gun’s light weight of just 6 lb 2 oz ensures lively handling and effortless carry. A hand-matted solid tapering rib with silver front bead completes the classic sighting plane. This example, serial number 5596, remains in excellent overall condition, showing only faint handling wear. The bores are clear, the trigger is crisp, and the action locks up tight with ejectors strong and in time. The case color hardened action is beautifully enhanced by intricate scroll engraving by master engraver Vasco, signed near the trigger guard, and complemented by a pierced top lever with rose motif. The barrels retain nearly all of their original blue, while the straight-grip walnut stock and splinter forend feature sharp checkering and understated elegance. Housed in a canvas case with maroon felt interior and maker’s label, this Piotti represents a refined and highly desirable Italian sidelock—equally suited for the field or a distinguished collection.
