Flli PIOTTI Model Monaco Vintage Matched Pair 12 Ga. 30” Game Guns, PATELLI Engraved, finest Turkish walnut,
Cased with Accessories, Springs, Pins
Description: CORRECTION IN TITLE: Barrels are 28" (70cm), not 30". Title cannot be edited once listed. This magnificent true pair of Piotti 12 bore sidelocks have been mine for over 25 years and are my pride and joy. But time marches on and they are too nice to gather dust just because I cant hunt any more. PLEASE NOTE that the first five photos were professionally shot in Italy in 1996 when the guns were new. The next ten photos were taken by me, today, and show the gently used condition of the guns and case. Minor handling marks and no damage whtsoever. Blueing thinned slightly on the barrels where handled to carry and shoot. These guns came with a set of extra pins and springs numbered to each gun and they remain unused. Full case accessories from Piotti remain including snap caps, oil bottle, two piece cleaning rod and its attachments. The beautiful Italian leather case and flanel boots are in fine condition. The guns have straight diamond shape grips, very fine checkering, checkerd butts, splinter forends with dimensions to fit me shown in the documents. Dimensions are pretty much middle of the road as I am of average height and build. The guns have double articulating triggers, rolled edge trigger guards, automatic safeties, gold line cocking indicators, chopper lump barrels, bushed firing pins, smooth concave game ribs, perfect balance and function. They weigh 6-3/4 pounds each, as they should for shooting 1-1/8 ounce loads. Intricate gold initial shield inlaid in forends, each gun numbered 1 or 2 in gold in three places. One is choked 1/4 and 3/4 and the other one I left a little tighter, so there will be room for adjustment by their new owners. As seen in the photos, all documents from the maker remain with the guns. I call these Monacos "vintage" because they were originally built in1976 by the original Piotti brothers and purchased by an Italian investor who never shot them. I acquired them from his family in 1996 and had Piotti make a few minor adjustments to suit and fit me, and they provided me with shown documents as new guns. A truly unique pair, and the beautilful engraving is the epitomy of understated elegance. I was told by the makers that this type of fine border engraving is among the most difficult to execute because the adjacent coin finished areas do not allow any room for error. The design and the execution must be perfect or any flaws will jump out at the viewer. So only the finest Master engravers attempt this design. Both guns are signed "inc. Patelli W. 76". Replacement cost today for a comparable matched pair of new Piottis would push two hundred thousand dollars with a 1-2 year wait to get them.
