1872 J Purdey Toplever Island Lock Hammer 12 Ga Double Game Gun with Factory Letter Nitro Proofed
Description: Another “ESTATE” firearm listing brought to you from Dust 2 Dollars who prides themselves on showing the complete gun in high quality pictures along with a detailed description for your consideration. We offer you an “1872” J. Purdey Toplever Island Lock Hammer 12 gauge Double Game Gun with the factory letter. From the factory Purdey letter; Gun No. 8733 Completed: 1872 Calibre: 12 Bore Description: No. 1 of a pair of toplever hammer game guns. Weight at completion: 7 lb. 7 1/2oz. Barrels: 30 in Damascus Stock Length: 14 ¼ 1/16 in Built for: Colonel Honourable A.E. Fraser Notes: Noting as having “no cast off” The letter will be included with the shotgun. The shotgun has all matching numbers as shown and is all original. The 30 inch barrels have excellent bores with no issues. There is no rust or pitting on the barrels and the Damascus pattern is still vivid after 150 years. The forearm finish appears original and is very dark with the checkering worn. There is a chip on the left side near the tip and one old crack as shown. The receiver shows fine and detailed engraving as do the locks. The butt stock has the original L.O.P. and shows one crack on the right side at the tang. It appears that it was sanded at some point in the past and shows some very nice figure. The barrels are tight on face with no movement when closed. The hammers function as they should with no issues. As you can see the shotgun was returned to Purdey at some point and wears the “Crown over R” stamp. At that time it was “Nitro Proofed” and the chambers are 2 ½ inch. There is also the “Definitive nitro (smokeless) powder proof”. The number (1) is stamped on several parts since it was the No. 1 gun from a pair that was ordered in 1872. Overall this is a very fine and all original and matching Purdey double. SOLD This will be shipped fully insured UPS Ground to you where allowed $100. It will be shipped in a foam lined double walled cardboard box that we have manufactured for us so that your gun arrives safe. Payment to be made by USPS Money Order or Cashier’s Check. All firearms come with a 3-day inspection from D2D’s. SOLD Antique: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 12 Gauge |
