Description: Earliest known J. Purdey percussion gun. Not a flintlock conversion. A fine cased 14-bore double barreled gun, SN #349. Beautiful re-browned C. Lancaster 29 3/4" twist damascus barrels.Top rib signed J. Purdey,Princes Street,Leicester Square, London. First gun manufactured by Purdey expressively for percussion caps. First ever w/ vented platinum plugs, threaded nipples,and flash shields on the lock plates. Locks signed Purdey. Engraved dolphin head hammers. Dog-catch safetys. Liberally engraved through-out.Walnut half-stock checkered at wrist with small hairline crack behind left hammer. ( see photo # 6). Vacant escutcheon and brass trimmed ram-rod. Solid case with Princes St. trade cards and numerous acessories. Excellent condition, historically significant, collectors piece,rare, none older.Validated by Purdey's ,London. Ref.
