This is a desirable consecutive serial numbered matched pair of James Purdey self-opening side-by-side shotguns made circa 1906. Both guns feature beautifully scroll and bouquet engraved case-colored sidelock actions with cocking indicators striker discs self-opening mechanism double triggers pen safety and ejectors.
The checkered walnut straight-grip stocks are nicely figured and proportioned for fast handling. Gun #1 includes a gold inlaid initial plate in the toe line gold “SAFE” on the upper tang and “1” engraved on the take-down lever. Gun #2 is nearly identical in configuration and appearance.
Both guns remain in very good plus condition with crisp engraving and tight lockup. The barrels were reblued sometime in their history.
Housed together in the original maker’s case.
