Remington Model 11 Sportsman Factory Master Carl Ennis Engraved F-Grade

Description:
These “F” or Premier Grade guns represent the finest work produced by Remington, with each part hand-selected and fitted by master gunsmiths before being engraved by a master. This example was completed in September 1949, as indicated by the DUU date stamp.
The gun features a blued steel barrel with dual bead sights on the matted flat vent rib, six-inch wedges of scroll engraving at the breech on either side of the rib incorporating the factory marks, and a hand-cut circled “F GRADE” marking. The barrel measures 2?3/4?inches in chamber with a choke constriction of .008 inches (improved cylinder).
The barrel is fitted to a blued receiver displaying near full-coverage, beautifully cut broad floral scroll engraving surrounding six panel game scenes: a pair of woodcocks, a pair of pointing setters, and a bedded grouse on the right; a pheasant cock, a pair of pointers, and a pair of quail on the left. A small “E” on the left side below the pointers indicates engraving by Remington Master Engraver Carl Ennis. Additional engraving includes a bust of a pointer on the trigger guard and hand-cut serial number on the lower tang and ahead of the loading port, which also features a hand-cut “GRADE-F” marking.
The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend and a pistol grip stock with blank gold inscription oval, hard rubber factory grip cap, and buttplate. Stock measurements: 1?5/8?inch drop at comb; 2?3/8?inch drop at heel; 14?1/8?inch length of pull; weight 8?lbs. 7?oz.

Condition
Excellent, retaining 98% original blue finish with minor handling evidence, a minor patch of spotting at the rear right of the receiver, and some dried grease on the bolt. There is a small crack at the right of the forend in the grasping groove; otherwise, the wood is very fine with some dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
