This Collector and Shooter’s Remington Model 17 20 Gauge SN: 514XX is the Highest Grade, Fanciest Model 17 we have seen anywhere. It has near exhibition-quality tiger-stripe wood fashioned into a target/trap buttstock with expert and tastefully executed checkering in all the right places. A red rubber ventilated recoil pad is marked “Hawkins” (Pat’d). The polished metal grip cap bears an “S” monogram & has filigree border engraving. The barrel is a fraction short of 28 Inches, has a Solid Rib and Mid-Rib Bead (possibly, Ivory) in addition to the Front Bead. All markings are correct, including the Browning Patent Dates. This Patent later became the Ithaca Model 37 – which, like this earlier example, was famous for the bottom-eject feature suitable for Right- or Left-Handed shooters. This shotgun is tight and fully operational with an excellent bore. It has been well cared for with mild wear for age. It is an excellent shooter at an attractive price given the unusual custom & high grade features seldom seen on Remington 17s.
