The date of manufacture of this gun is June, 1979 (based on barrel code PV). There are no accessories included this shotgun.
The barrel is labeled on the right side about five inches forward of the receiver with “REMINGTON ARMS CO.,INC.” (first line) and “ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A.” (second line). Just forward of the receiver on the right side of the gun are a cluster of three markings – 1) an oval with REP (Remington proof mark), 2) an inverted V with a partial circle around the V beginning at the end of one leg of the V and going up and around the V to the other leg; it looks like a pie with a wedge out of the bottom portion (internal proof/inspection symbol), 3) an S+ inside a triangle (inspector stamp).
The left side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver, is the number “36” (not sure what that means). To the left of that is PV (date code for June, 1979). To the left of that is what appears to be a styelised “U” (not sure what this means). Further to the left, about four inches, is stamped with a star followed by “12GA. MAGNUM” (first line) and “FOR 3IN. SHELLS” (second line).
The right side of the receiver has no markings. The left side is stamped on the first line “Remington MAGNUM” followed by a small wing icon attached to (part of)” Wingmaster”. On the second line is stamped the serial number and “MODEL 870”.
The owner of this gun said he received it as a high school graduation present in 1979. And because he did not do the kind of hunting requiring a 12-gauge magnum with a 30-inch barrel, he hardly ever used it. He said it has had no more than couple boxes of shells fired thought it. Thus, the condition of the gun is 99+ percent. The finishes on the metal and walnut wood are all original. The barrel is 100 percent, with no marks or other blemishes of any type. The receiver and trigger guard are also 100 percent, with no marks or blemishes. The forearm is in like new condition with one blemish/scratch on the left side, about two inches from the front end (muzzle end). The stock is also in like-new condition with no marks, blemishes, or other signs of wear. The checkering is deep and crisp, with no damage.
