Remington Model 17 Special Grade 20 GA – 1928, 98%, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Remington, 1928, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 15oz., Choke Full, LOP 13 7/8", DAH 2 3/8", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 57544 Vintage Firearms Inc is pleased to offer for sale this Remington Model 17B ‘Special Grade’ pump action shotgun in 20 gauge, manufactured in 1928 it is serial number 57544, both barrel and receiver match. This Model 17 features a 28″ barrel with full choke and excellent bore. The barrel shows 97% factory blue and the receiver 98% with a matted top, the screws are superb. The furniture is American walnut with nice figure and excellent hand cut checkering; the butt is finished with a Remington hard rubber pad. What was to become the Model 17 was designed by John Browning with the rights sold to Remington around 1915, due to the production efforts of World War I Remington was unable to begin manufacturing until 1921. It was produced from 1921 to 1933 with about 73,000 made. The Model 17 was only made in 20 gauge and was renowned for its strong smooth action and lightness; indeed, our example weighs only 5lbs. 15oz! The Model 17 features a single under-loading port for both loading and ejecting shells while most contemporaries have two openings; this single port makes the receiver extremely robust with two solid walls, it is an excellent gun for both right-handed and left-handed shooters. The Remington Model 17 remains highly regarded by collectors and enthusiasts for its historical significance, its build quality and reliability that went on to influence several successful shotgun models, including the Remington Model 31 and the Ithaca Model 37. The Model 17’s lightweight and balanced design makes it an excellent shotgun for upland game hunting where every ounce matters!
