WWII U.S. Military Remington Model 11 Riot Shotgun – FJA Cartouche – Ordnance Marked – Flaming Bomb – S/N 467468

Description:
WWII U.S. Military-Issued Remington Model 11 Semi-Automatic Riot Shotgun – 12 Gauge
Offered is an authentic, all-original U.S. military-marked Remington Model 11, the John M. Browning-designed long-recoil semi-auto adopted by the U.S. Ordnance Department for security, guard, and aerial gunnery training duty during World War II. This is the earlier wartime variant — built on the commercial-pattern receiver with the original Remington duck-in-flight roll engraving still present, predating the later "Military Finish" stamped guns. Approximately 65,000 Model 11s were procured by the U.S. military during WWII, making this an increasingly difficult piece to find in honest, unrestored condition.
Key Markings:
  • Crisp "U.S." with flaming bomb (Ordnance Department acceptance) cartouche on left side of receiver
  • "REMINGTON / REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. / 467468" serial on left receiver
  • Browning's patent dates (Oct. 9, 1900; Dec. 17, 1901; Sept. 30, 1902; June 18, 1903) on barrel
  • "The Remington Arms Union Metallic Ctg. Co. Inc. – Remington Ilion Wks. – Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A." barrel address
  • Faint stock cartouche stamp on left side of wrist is OG with a square around it and FJA visible under the engraved 4 on the stock
  • Period rack number "4" hand-carved into buttstock
  • "MODEL 11" stamped on bolt
Specifications:
  • Caliber/Gauge: 12 gauge, 2-3/4" chamber
  • Barrel: ~26" cylinder bore
  • Action: Browning long-recoil semi-automatic
  • Capacity: 4+1
  • Sight: Brass bead front
  • Stock: Original American walnut, straight-grip with ribbed wood buttplate
  • Manufacturer: Remington Arms Co., Ilion, NY
  • Estimated production: Early WWII (c. 1941–1943)
Condition:
  • Metal: Approximately 70–80% original blue with light freckling and honest age patina; no deep pitting; receiver markings remain crisp
  • Wood: Solid, no cracks; honest handling wear with armorer/period date notations on forearm; rack number "4" carved into buttstock
  • Bore: Bright with light scattered marks; cylinder choke
  • Action: Cycles correctly; functions as designed
  • Original wood buttplate intact
  • Forearm and buttstock both original-pattern
  • The markings on the forearm are the different dates that it moved through several police departments after the war
