John Rigby & Co. ~ Rising Bite ~ 12 Ga
Description: For your consideration, a John Rigby & Co. Rising Bite sidelock chambered in 12 Gauge. This piece is the very image of a fine, classic English double. Originally offered 1880-1920, Rigby discontinued the Rising Bite design due to the expense of its manufacture rather than any mechanical shortcomings. Reinforcing the already adequate Purdey underbite lockup, a loop-shaped extension of the rib mates with a recess in the standing breech containing a fixed central buttress which is then secured by a rising post linked to the opening lever. All said, a marvelous feat of gunmaking. The French grayed receiver and trigger guard are engraved with dense foliate scrollwork as is the breech end of the rib. Features include ejectors, an automatic safety, double triggers, and a lever release forend latch. Stock dimensions are as follows: 15" LOP, 1 1/8" drop at comb, 2" at heel, and 3° cast off from centerline. Renowned for its intricacy and strength, Rigby has recently reintroduced the Rising Bite, though this example is an original dating to 1890. 12 Gauge SOLD Chambers: 2.75 Metal Condition: Excellent Wood Condition: Excellent Bore Condition: Excellent Barrels: 30 Triggers: Double Stock Dimensions: 15" LOP Fore End: Checkered Splinter Butt Pad: Leathered Weight: 6.5 lbs Sights: Bead and Rib Chokes: "Left, IC, Right, Cyl Item Location: Hamburg, PA |
