John Rigby & Co. 12 Gauge Sidelock – Class “D”, Engraved by Webley, c.1939

A superb example of British gunmaking heritage, this John Rigby & Co. Class “D” 12 bore was completed circa 1939 and remains in outstanding original condition. Bearing serial number 18258, the gun features 30” barrels with a solid concave rib and full and full chokes, ideal for driven game or vintage clays. The rib is engraved in the traditional Rigby fashion and shows a beautiful patina in keeping with its age.

The action is finely engraved in classic English rose & scroll by Webley, showcasing understated elegance and craftsmanship. The gun retains its original color hardening, with crisp engraving throughout. Mechanically, it remains tight and on face, with the fit and finish expected from a pre-war Rigby.

Stocked to the period standard with an English straight-hand grip, the highly figured walnut exhibits deep contrast and stunning grain. Dimensions are set for a refined shooter: 15” length of pull, 2” drop at heel, 1 1/2” drop at comb, and 3/16” cast off—an ideal fit for the right-handed sportsman seeking a proper British game gun.

Housed in its original leather case and Rigby paperwork confirming provenance and specifications, this Rigby is an exceptional collector’s piece. The case is fitted to the gun and retains its original interior baize lining and accessory compartments.
