Here we present a Savage Arms Corporation Fox Model B Double Barrel Side by Side 410 Gauge Shotgun, made circa the mid to late 1950s in Westfield, Massachusetts. Savage Arms purchased the A.H. Fox Company in November of 1929. They kept the A.H. Fox gun in production until America's entry into the Second World War, 1942 being the last year an A.H. Fox retail catalog appeared. However, back in the 1940's the Fox name had considerable market recognition, and in 1940 Savage capitalized on that by using the Fox name on a somewhat upscale version of their Stevens Model 311 side-by-side utility shotgun, which had been introduced in 1931. The resulting gun, named the Fox Model B was introduced at a price of $25.75. It was to be a long-lived model, remaining in the Savage line until rising manufacturing costs and the sale and reorganization of Savage Industries, Inc. (which became today's Savage Arms Company) caused it to be discontinued in 1988. By that time the MSRP for the Fox Model B-SE had risen to $525.
The .410 shotgun, often touted as a “beginner’s gun” because of its attractiveness to young shooters, is usually lightweight with thin patterns and doesn’t deliver a big charge which could potentially scare away a young shooter. The origins of the .410 go back to the end of the nineteenth century, when farmers shot birds and small game to feed their families. There wasn’t any wing shooting involved here, just pop them wherever they were and take ‘em home for mom to cook.

The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. Excellent action. Reflective, smooth bore. Excellent stock with sharp checkering. “FOX” is engraved on both side of the frame. Sharp markings.
