1850s GERMANIC Antique SxS Shotgun by SCHMIDT

“A. SCHMIDT DUSSELDORF”

Here we present an antique German Percussion Side by Side Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used for putting game on the table and protecting the homestead. The barrel is marked “A. SCHMIDT DÜSSELDORF”. Düsseldorf was at this period in time a part of the Kingdom of Prussia. The locks, barrel tang, trigger guard, and rear ramrod fixture are nicely engraved with a game scene and floral scroll. The wrist is straight and there is a horn pistol grip behind the trigger guard. This shotgun has seen a lot of use and has even had the rear of the stock extended for a longer length of pull.

The overall condition is fair. The iron parts are dark with age. The markings and engravings are clear. The stock has seen a lot of hard use and has been repaired on the left side. The barrel wedge is absent. The bores are smooth, dark and dusty. The actions are excellent.
