Robert S. Garden 4 Gauge Shotgun 1870's-1910's MFG Date

This excellent condition 4 bore shotgun is a very rare and very sought after piece for many collectors, its unique history and even more unique look would be an incredible addition to any serious collectors collection.  It is a break action single shot shotgun with a whopping 42 1/8" long barrel! The garden name was known as army accoutrements makers & saddlers around the 1700s to about the 1890s. They were involved in the sale of such items including swords to officers, the Indian army, and some regiments of the east Indian company. They went through many trade names throughout the years The company originally started by Hugh Garden with the name Garden at 200 Piccadilly London. When his son Robert Spring Garden joined him the name switched to Garden & Son. Hugh Garden passed away in 1851 and his son would carry his legacy on as the Robert S Garden company. He would then move his company too 29 Piccadilly London. Robert Garden passed in 1919. This company only has mentions and photos of selling military arms and accoutrements there is almost no mention of sporting or commercial guns with their markings, making this a very rare and unique firearm. The strait wrist checkered wood stock has been professionally restored. The forend has a horn cap along with a full metal restoration being re-blued and the Damascus barrel being much more vivid and prominent. The top barrel is Marked ROBT.S.GARDEN.29.PICCADILLY.LONDON the barrel has a set of very old British proofs as well as some more modern ones that date from the 1950s, likely when the firearms was restored so they could fire it. The bore is in excellent condition and is very bright and mirror like. The barrel holds a front bead sight. The stock has no Butt plate, but it has a euro style checkered butt end.
