Hoffman Arms Co. 20 Gauge Kornbrath Engraved
Description: Hoffman Arms Company, Ardmore, Oklahoma 20 Gauge with 28" M/F dovetail lump ejector barrels with silver front bead, stippled rib, and rib extension third fastener. English nitro proofs. Chambers are 2 3/4" Bores are bright and shiney with slight roughness but no pitting. Bores measure .617 right and .619 left. Receiver, trigger guard and grip cap have 70% coverage of scroll engaving by the great Rudolph Kornbrath. Stocked in a nice piece of English Walnut with receiver drop points. LOP is 14 5/8" to a fairly hard Silver's pad. DAC 1 3/8" DAH 2 1/4" Cast off approximately 1/4". This piece weighs in at 6lb 4oz This is a great collector piece also very suitable for use in the field. It is in 80% overall condition with thinning barrel blue. Receiver, trigger guard, and grip cap have gone silver. It is all original, unrefinished , and unmolested. Just a great piece of early 20th Century Americana. Griffin & Howe was formed in June of 1923. In October of 1923 James Howe left to join the Hoffman Arms Company in Cleveland, Ohio., also organized in June of 1923. They were moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1925 and were Griffin & Howe's only major competitor until their doors were closed in 1930 by the Great Depression. Rudolph Kornbrath is considered the finest engraver of the early 20th Century. His career ended with a stroke in 1937.
